Internship
- Job Description - This internship will be divided
between three main disciplines: Visitor
Services, Recreation Management, and Maintenance. This internship offers the opportunity to
have a diverse experience that will give highlight the opportunities in park
management. The intern will have the
opportunity to attend planning meetings and participate in environmental
education programs that are coordinated through the Jackson County Outdoor
Education Network. Additionally, the
intern will have a term project that will give them the opportunity to
contribute personally to a project designed around their skills and interests,
such as: completing historical research
and grants, presenting interpretation programs, marketing park programs and
updating website content.
- Requirements/Qualifications -
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and
holidays.
- Possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work with little supervision.
- Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education.
- Internship is paid and can vary between $10/hourly and $11/hourly.
- Housing is available for $100 per month. Rent is taken directly out of your pay check.
- Free entrance to both Steamboat Lake State Park and Pearl Lake State Park
- Opportunity to meet and network with other state park employees and wildlife managers
- Opportunity to work in each area within the park (maintenance, revenue, customer service, interpretation, ranger duties, administration, etc.)
- Located in a great area in Routt National Forest surrounded by recreational opportunities such as hiking trails, rivers, lakes, mountain bike trails, jeep trails, climbing, kayaking, canoeing, etc.
- Located 40 minutes north of Steamboat Springs, CO.
- Completed title 33 Ranger certification
- Completed boat safety certification
- Completed ATV certification
- Completed Aquatic Nuisance Species Certification
- Organized and implemented several interpretive programs
